Swarco Traffic Systems procures ADEC TDC1-PIR with BS2 IoT Gateway for Traffic Management System in Regensburg

ADEC Technologies delivers 36 solar-powered IoT gateways and 108 TDC1-PIR low-power traffic detectors for traffic management project in Regensburg

Eschenbach, July 1st, 2021:  SWARCO TRAFFIC SYSTEMS GmbH installed 108 TDC1-PIR low-power traffic detectors, integrated via ADECs solar-powered BS2 IoT Gateway into the SWARCO Gecko Cloud. Aggregated five-minute interval data from 108 measurement points helps city officials to optimize traffic flow by adapting traffic light timing.

Mr. Guido Kugel, Product Manager Detection & Data at SWARCO TRAFFIC SYSTEMS, explains: “The traffic management system includes a SWARCO Urban Traffic Control Centre and 198 connected traffic signals. It uses traffic data from the ADEC detectors and IoT gateways to capture real-time traffic situation information and compare it with traffic data collected at the traffic signals. The data thus collected is analyzed and evaluated to feed into the traffic control module of the city of Regensburg. We were looking for a solar-powered solution with proven detection capabilities. The client has been specifically searching for a solution that would be self-sufficient and not require any special infrastructure. Therefore, only a solar-powered system with direct cellular connectivity to the SWARCO MyCity Cloud system was an option for us. In fact, the installation was completed end of July 2020 and we can now confirm that the installation performed well through the foggy winter months with low solar irradiation.”

Andreas Hartmann, Managing Director at ADEC Technologies, emphasizes the good cooperation between the stakeholders in jointly working to deliver this solution which is thus far the largest installation with ADEC solar-powered BS2 IoT gateways.

ASFiNAG procures 60 TDC3-8 vehicle detectors

Eschenbach, October 31, 2014ADEC Technologies delivers 60 of its top-of-the-line TDC3-8 vehicle classification detectors to ASFiNAG for installation at IGL sites. IGL refers to an Austrian law that codifies air pollution limits on highways. Each IGL measurement point comprises a gantry with detectors and a VMS indicating the current speed limit. The limit is reduced when the emissions – calculated from the actual air quality as well as from the speed and number of vehicles in each class – exceed a certain threshold. Conversely, the speed limits are raised when the opposite occurs.

TDC3-8 devices classify vehicles into 8+1 vehicle classes according to TLS. Classification accuracy meets or exceeds TLS A1 level for all but car with trailer (79.3%), trucks with trailer (A2) and busses (A2). Vehicle speed measurement is also well above the TLS-required accuracy levels, at 2.48 km/h (for vehicles with speeds = 100 km/h) and 2.11% respectively (for vehicles speeds > 100 km/h).

Markus Güntensperger, Product manager at ADEC Technologies adds that “Our engineers have done an outstanding job in bringing out this next version of the three-technology traffic detectors – It’s a significant step forward and we’re excited to be able to offer such superior detection quality”

The tests were commissioned by an independent ITS provider in Austria on an ASFiNAG testing site. The detailed test report will be published on ADEC Technologies’ website.

ADEC Technologies Releases 75 m (250 ft.) Range Traffic Detector

Eschenbach, February 7th 2013: ADEC Technologies, a Swiss manufacturer of non-intrusive road-traffic detectors, announced today that they have released a Doppler radar traffic detector with a 75 m (250 ft.) detection range.

The detector augments the TDD1 series of Doppler radar traffic detectors that provide simple contact closure output and allow for easy customization using an IR remote. Markus Güntensperger, product manager at ADEC Technologies AG, explains: “While there’s great need for reliable, simple traffic detectors, we’ve seen that many customers were looking forward to a model with enhanced detection range compared to our current TDD1-MW30 model which is designed for short-range applications. Our new MW75 model provides more than double the range.”

Besides other settings, the new TDD1-MW75 model can be conveniently configured for detection range of 30 / 45 and 75 m (100 / 150 / 250 ft.) using an IR remote control, available as extra accessory. The detector is specifically designed for green phase request or extension at temporary or permanent traffic lights.

ADEC Technologies enters into partnership in North America

Eschenbach, July 30th 2012: ADEC Technologies today announced it entered into a partnership with Transportation Equipment & Services, a North-Carolina based manufacturers’ representative specialized in traffic technology solutions for the Transportation Industry.

Andreas Hartmann, Marketing Manager at ADEC Technologies, states that “this partnership is essential to our growth strategy by making available with our road traffic detection products combined with the excellent customer care tradition of our partner”. Transportation Equipment and Services is adding to its line-up the TDC1-PIR detector, a key component for power-sipping traffic detection installations. “We had to apply some modifications to the device to achieve full compatibility with the traffic controllers commonly used in North America”, comments Andreas, “while customers here retrieve the data primarily using the serial interface, the typical interface in the States is a simple contact indicating the presence or absence of a vehicle”.

Mark Holland, Consultant at Transportation Equipment & Services, explains that “we believe the ADEC TDC1-PIR is perfectly suited for our intersection control applications for presence detection for single traffic lanes including left turning vehicles. We’re pleased to have been able to bring on board a high-caliber manufacturer like ADEC Technologies”.

ADEC Technologies supplied customized vehicle classifiers to Tallinn (Estonia)

Eschenbach, March 16th 2012: ADEC Technologies delivered customized software for over 150 TDC3-5 vehicle classifiers that will help the city of Tallinn, the capital of Estonia, to get a grip on its traffic situation. Ats Tamm, chairman at Signaal, an Estonian manufacturer and installer of traffic products, comments “Our company was appointed to provide city-wide traffic information so that officials can base any decisions for infrastructure investments, including priority-lanes for busses, on factual data. As a result, our classification needs were somewhat different form the ordinary TLS-based classification scheme. In particular, we were looking for separate classes for our trolleys and articulated buses. ADEC Technologies worked closely with our engineers and added our classification needs to their detectors in very short time. The test results clearly exceed our expectations. We’re very pleased with the professionalism and speed that ADEC Technologies managed to implement our needs and have the products delivered so quickly.”

Markus Güntensperger, Product manager at ADEC Technologies adds that “Signaal has provided us with clear requirements and access to a test-site with excellent traffic mix that allowed us to implement the customization in very short time. Our engineers were especially pleased with the short turnaround-time for technical and site-specific questions. We’ve been extremely pleased with the support and feedback that helped us greatly in getting this job done in this short time.”

New radar-based vehicle detector

Eschenbach, August 16th 2011: ADEC Technologies today announced the release of a simple short to medium-range traffic detector. The Doppler radar-based detector stands out through its rather unique accessory. Markus Güntensperger, Product Manager at ADEC Technologies, comments “The commissioning interface of any detector often leads to a compromise between longevity and versatility. We felt that neither DIP switches nor additional connectors optimally serve the temporary nature of the commissioning task. A simple IR remote control device does.”

Besides the novel approach to set application specific parameters via IR remote, the device features a detection range up to 30 m (100 ft.) at an opening angle of 25 degrees. Output is provided via SPDT relays and a feed-back LEDs on the front. It can be powered from a wide range of supplies, accepting 5-60 VDC or 24 VAC.

Typical applications include green-phase requests at traffic lights (mobile and stationary), speed dependent detection of vehicles and auto-operation of doors and gates.
